About Williams

Williams Baptist University is a Christian, liberal arts university. Williams is known for its academic excellence and personal attention, with a student-to-teacher ratio of 14-to-1, as well as its warm, Christ-centered environment. On average, there are 500 students enrolled at WBU. Most students live in on-campus residence halls and apartments.

Williams has over 25 majors and pre-professional programs to prepare students for a wide array of career options, and it is ranked in the top-tier of southern colleges & universities by US News & World Report. It is accredited through the Higher Learning Commission and by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education.

WBU is owned and operated by the Arkansas Baptist State Convention.

Williams was founded as Southern Baptist College in 1941 by Dr. H.E. Williams. It started in Pocahontas, Ark., but in 1947 the campus was relocated to a nearby, former World War II military base in Walnut Ridge, which has been the college’s home ever since. WBC began as a two-year college, but moved to four-year status in 1984. The name was changed to Williams Baptist College, in honor of its founder, in 1991.

WBU is situated on a 250-acre campus in the northeast Arkansas community of Walnut Ridge, a city of 5,000 people. Williams is a 30-minute drive from Jonesboro, with a population of about 70,000 and a wide array of stores, restaurants and entertainment options. Memphis is approximately 90 minutes away, and Little Rock is about a two-hour drive.

Mission Statement

Williams’ mission is to provide an excellent, holistically Christian, liberal arts education, while compassionately shaping students’ lives.

Vision Statement

Williams’ vision is to produce exceptional graduates prepared to engage local and global cultures through a Christ-centered worldview.

Campus Ministries

The vision of campus ministries is to INFLUENCE students for GROW closer to Jesus, CONNECT deeper in Biblical community, and SERVE Him selflessly.

“In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.”  Matthew 5:16

We do this by creating Gospel Environments:

  • Refine – corporate worship environment for college students where students can encounter God, engage in authentic worship, and be equipped to serve Him selflessly.
    • Click here for more information.
  • Chapel – weekly testimony time where examples of real life faith are shared.
  • Living Room Events – fun events like retreats, cookouts, and Flight Night where students can connect with other students and influence them with the gospel.
  • Connect Groups – weekly student led groups, that meet at convenient times in a central location.  Though meeting at different times and different locations the structure is the same: 30 min Bible discussion/30 min character discussion/15-30 min prayer.
  • Mission Trips – opportunities locally, nationally, and internationally to “show others the goodness of God, for He called you out of the darkness and into His wonderful light.”  1 Peter 2:9b
